Why people choose online sessions

  • No travel time, and no need to be seen at a clinic.
  • A quiet space of your own, at a time that fits work, study or family.
  • The choice of a psychologist who speaks your language.
  • The same professional conversation you would have in a room, by video or voice.

How Mentra works

You tell us a little about what you are looking for, and we show psychologists who may be a good fit. You see each psychologist's profile and fee before you book, and you choose who to book with.

You pick a time, pay securely online, and we send your private session link on WhatsApp. At your time, you join by video or voice.

People come to us for anxiety, low mood, relationship and couples counselling, family and parenting, child and teen counselling, work and study stress and grief and loss. If you would rather speak in your own language, you can ask for counselling in Malayalam.

What to expect in a first session

  • Your psychologist will ask what brings you in and what you would like to change.
  • You can take your time. You decide how much to share.
  • What you share is confidential, within the limits of the law and professional ethics.
Questions

Things people ask

Can I have sessions from outside India?

Yes. Sessions are online, so you can join from anywhere with a stable internet connection. Your booking confirmation shows the time in your own time zone. Mentra's psychologists are qualified in India, and rules for online therapy can differ between countries, so if you have a question about your location, message us before you book.

Clients join from Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Sharjah, Riyadh, Doha, London, New York, Toronto, Sydney and many other places. Choose a time between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM IST that fits your own time zone.

Which languages are sessions in?

English and Malayalam. Each psychologist's profile lists the languages they work in, so you can choose someone you can express yourself with.

Most clients choose by language first. Use the language filter on the booking page to see psychologists who work in Malayalam, English or both, and read the full profile before you decide.

Are the psychologists licensed?

Mentra works with licensed psychologists. Each psychologist's qualification is shown on their profile.

Qualifications and registration details are shown on each psychologist's profile, so you can check them before you book. Our psychologists offer counselling and therapy and do not prescribe medicines.

Can I get a prescription from a psychologist?

No. Psychologists provide counselling and therapy. They do not prescribe medicines. If you may need medication, a psychiatrist can help, and your psychologist can tell you when that may be useful.

If you think you may need medication, a psychiatrist or doctor can help, and your psychologist can tell you when that might be useful. You can continue online counselling while you see a doctor in your own city or country.

How does online counselling work?

Choose a psychologist, pick a time, pay securely online, and we send your private session link on WhatsApp. At your time you join by video or voice from your phone or computer.

Many people start with the free online screening or a free 10-minute matching call. From there you choose a psychologist, pay online and join from Kerala, the Gulf, the UK, the US or anywhere else.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

For many people, talking by video or voice works well. What matters most is a good fit with your psychologist and a private, quiet place to talk. If another kind of support would suit you better, your psychologist will say so.

Many people find that online therapy works well, particularly when they have a private space and a good fit with their psychologist. If you are in crisis or feel unsafe, please contact local emergency services instead of waiting for a session.

What do I need for an online counselling session?

A phone, tablet or computer, a stable internet connection and a private space. Your session link arrives on WhatsApp, so there is nothing to install.

Use headphones for privacy and better sound, sit somewhere you will not be disturbed, and test your camera and microphone a few minutes early. If you share a home, tell others you need an hour undisturbed.

How much does an online psychologist cost?

Each psychologist's fee is shown on their profile before you book, so you know the cost in advance. Individual sessions are 60 minutes and couple sessions are 90 minutes.

Payment is online and secure, and you can see the fee before you pay. If you have questions about payment from abroad, message us before you book.

If you are outside India, search for your country's emergency number or crisis helpline, for example the local emergency services in the UAE, the UK, the US, Canada or Australia. Mentra provides scheduled therapy, not crisis intervention.
