Relationship and couples counselling online
Every relationship goes through hard patches. Counselling gives you and your partner a calm place to talk, listen and understand each other better.
When couples seek counselling
- The same arguments keep coming back.
- It is hard to talk about money, family, children or intimacy.
- One or both of you feel unheard, or distant from each other.
- Trust has been shaken.
- A big change, such as marriage, a move or a new baby, is putting strain on the relationship.
How counselling helps
A psychologist does not take sides. They help each of you say what you need, understand the pattern you are caught in, and practise new ways of talking to each other.
You can come as a couple, or come alone if your partner is not ready. Individual sessions about a relationship are welcome too. Stress at home or anxiety can also affect a relationship, and the same psychologist can help with family and parenting concerns. Sessions are online from anywhere, so partners in different places can join too.
What to expect
- Couple sessions are 90 minutes.
- Both partners join the same video call, from the same room or from different places.
- You each get room to speak. Your psychologist keeps the conversation calm and fair.
Things people ask
Can we join from different places?
Yes. Each partner can join the same link from their own device.
This works well for long-distance couples, for partners who work in different cities, and for one partner in Kerala and the other in the Gulf, the UK or the US. Each of you opens the same private link on your own phone or laptop, and the psychologist sees you both. Choose a time that works in both time zones.
What if only one of us wants to come?
You can start on your own. Many people find it helps to work on their own side of the relationship first.
Starting alone is common and often helps. You can focus on your own part in the relationship, how you communicate and what you need, and your partner may join later when they feel ready. Sessions are online in Malayalam or English, from anywhere.
Is what we say kept private?
Yes. What you share is confidential, within the limits of the law and professional ethics.
What each of you says in session stays confidential, within the limits of the law and professional ethics. Your psychologist explains how this works before you begin, including what happens if one of you also books an individual session.
When should a couple try relationship counselling?
Many couples come when arguments repeat, when they feel distant, after a breach of trust, or before big decisions. You do not have to wait for a crisis. Earlier is often easier.
Couples in Kerala and in the Gulf often tell us they waited until things felt very hard. Earlier is easier: counselling can help when you are planning marriage, adjusting after a move abroad, managing in-laws and family expectations, or rebuilding trust. Online sessions are private and need no travel.
Can couples counselling help with communication problems?
Yes. A psychologist helps each partner say what they need, listen better and break the pattern of repeating arguments, with practical ways to talk to each other.
Typical work includes learning to start a hard conversation calmly, listening without defending, and noticing when an old argument has started again. Sessions are in Malayalam or English, so each of you can say what you really mean, in whichever language you think in.
How long is an online couples session?
Couple sessions are 90 minutes. Each partner can join the same link from their own device, or you can join together from one device.
The 90 minutes give both partners time to be heard without rushing. Because it is online, you can have a session from home, from different rooms or from different countries, at times between 8:00 AM and 9:00 PM IST to suit Indian, Gulf and Western schedules.
Can partners in different cities or countries do online couples therapy together?
Yes. Each person joins the same session link from wherever they are. See online psychologist for how online sessions work.
Many Mentra couples are separated by work or study, for example one partner in Kerala and one in Dubai, Doha, London or Toronto. Your booking confirmation shows the time in your own time zone, and each partner joins the same session link.
Can we have couples counselling in Malayalam?
Yes. Many of our psychologists work in Malayalam, in English, or both, and each profile lists the languages. Read more about online counselling in Malayalam.
Couples often find it easier to speak about trust, family expectations and in-laws in the language of home. Mentra offers couples counselling in Malayalam and English, in Kerala and around the world, and both partners can join the same session from different places.
Is relationship counselling confidential?
Yes, within the limits of the law and professional ethics. Your psychologist explains how confidentiality works in couple sessions before you begin.
Mentra uses secure video, and your contact details stay with Mentra and are not shared with your psychologist. You can read how we handle your information in our privacy policy before you book.
