Consent to Therapy
Version 11 October 2026
This is the consent you give when you book a session with Mentra. Please read it before you book. If anything is unclear, ask us first. You can also ask your psychologist at the start of your first session.
Who can give consent
- You must be 18 or older to consent to therapy yourself.
- If you are under 18, a parent or legal guardian must book the session and give consent on your behalf. Your psychologist may speak with you and your guardian about what will be shared.
- By ticking the box when you book, you confirm that you are 18 or older, or that you are the parent or legal guardian of the person who will attend.
What therapy involves
- Sessions are held online, by video or voice call, with a psychologist you choose.
- Therapy is a collaborative process. It can bring up difficult feelings, and the results depend on many things. We cannot promise a particular outcome.
- Your psychologist will explain their approach, and you can ask questions, change the pace or stop at any time.
- Therapy with Mentra does not include medication or psychiatric treatment. If your psychologist thinks you would benefit from another professional, they will tell you.
Online sessions
- You are responsible for a stable internet connection and a private place where you will not be overheard.
- Please do not record the session, and do not let anyone else listen without telling your psychologist. Your psychologist will not record sessions without your separate, written permission.
- If the connection fails, your psychologist will try to reach you on the phone number you gave when booking.
Not for emergencies
Mentra is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, or you are thinking of harming yourself, call your local emergency number or go to the nearest hospital.
What information we collect
When you book and attend sessions, we collect and store only what we need to give you care:
- Your name, email address, phone number, age range and country.
- Health-related information you share, limited to what is needed for therapy.
- Your payment reference. Payment is handled by Razorpay. We do not see or store your card, UPI or bank details.
- Your session notes and reports. These are written by your psychologist and are accessible to your psychologist and the people at Mentra who must see them to run the service.
Your information is stored securely and is not sold. It is not shared with anyone else without your consent, except as set out below. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
Confidentiality and its limits
What you say in therapy is confidential. Your psychologist and Mentra will not share your session details with anyone except in these cases:
- There is a serious risk of harm to you or to someone else.
- A child or another vulnerable person is at risk of abuse or neglect.
- We are required by law, or ordered by a court, to disclose information.
Where possible, we will tell you before we share anything and share only what is necessary. If you would like us to share a report with another professional, such as your doctor, we will ask for your separate consent each time.
Supervision and quality of care
Psychologists sometimes discuss cases with a supervisor or senior colleague so that you receive good care. When they do, your identity is kept private and only the information needed is shared.
Access to your previous session notes
To keep your care continuous, if you later book a session with another psychologist at Mentra, that psychologist may see your earlier session notes and records kept on our platform. This is only so they can support your progress and avoid asking you to repeat your story. These records stay confidential and are stored securely. If you do not want this, tell your new psychologist or write to us, and we will limit access.
Your rights
Under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, and the Information Technology Act, 2000, you may:
- ask to see the personal information we hold about you;
- ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
- ask us to delete your information, as far as the law allows (we may need to keep some clinical records for a period required by law);
- withdraw this consent at any time. This does not affect sessions that have already taken place.
To use any of these rights, write to us through our contact page. If you are not happy with how we handled your request, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.
Your agreement
When you tick the box on the booking page and continue, you confirm that:
- you have read and understood this Consent to Therapy;
- you agree to receive therapy from the psychologist you have chosen, and agree to the collection and use of your information as described here;
- you understand the limits of confidentiality;
- you are 18 or older, or you are a parent or guardian giving consent for a child;
- you have read our Terms of Service and Refund & Cancellation Policy.
We keep a record of when you gave this consent, and which version you agreed to, with your booking.
